Not only challenges but also opportunities in ICT

ITC are innovative tools for supporting learning: trainers should be open to explore and face the challenges in a positive and creative way.

Introduction:

ICT and e-learning tools and techniques are not always very familiar or they can bring challenges for being integrated into a whole educational flow. The trainer should be able to identify those challenges, name them and preview a possibility or better a strategy to overcome them. Challenges sometimes are a good reason for not take into account the possibility to use ICT tools or e-learning methods: too much time consuming, not understanding of inner reason to use them. The trainer should take the challenge to overcome inner resistance and discover new methodologies that could be useful if applied with a specific objective.

One way to be more open toward ICT and e-learning tools is also to see and recognize their advantages for the future and, specifically, for the educational field. it’s clear that technology will play a central role in nearly all aspects of our lives. Research by the World Economic Forum estimates that 65% of children entering primary school will find themselves in occupations that today do not exist.

By 2020 it’s estimated there will be 1.5 million new digitized jobs across the globe. At the same time, 90% of organizations currently have an IT skills shortage, while 75% of educators and students feel there is a gap in their ability to meet the skills needs of the IT workforce. To prepare the talent needed for the digital economy, education must adapt as fast as the demand for IT skills is growing and evolving.

insights into the influence of psychological, social, cultural and environmental factors on how we learn are emerging from “the new science of learning”. This approach to understanding education argues that in our complex and rapidly evolving world today, academic models based on interdisciplinary research are necessary to create effective teaching and learning environments.

Trainers could also be not comfortable with the use of ICT or e-learning tools but should be aware of the importance that these tools are taking in the current framework and see how they could be integrated when there is a specific and clear objective. Trainers could also prefer not to use these tools, because their approaches or methodologies are not applicable or they don’t feel comfortable, but they should be aware of the changes that are bringing, the challenges and their opportunities at the same time.

Exercises:

How to apply it in everyday work?

Let’s challenge ourselves then. Did you ever use Powtoon to create a video for your training? That’s the moment.

Use this link: https://www.powtoon.com/account/signup/?next=/my-powtoons/ for having access to Powtoon free version.

Your mission is to explore the tool and create a short video (or video presentation) for introducing to your participants the next training course and yourselves or the team.

After that, you create this presentation, share it with at least 2 people and collect their feedback.

Take a moment to reflect on:

How do you feel doing this exercise?

Where do you see the challenges in doing it?

Reflection Questions:

  • ICT and e-learning are representing your challenges?
  • Do you see any challenge in your daily life using these tools?
  • Who can help you overcome these challenges (if any?)
  • Can you avoid facing the use of ICT and e-learning tools?
